Hemalatha Heights Apartments, Sahakar Nagar, Bangalore
A 35 kWp Solar Roof-Top On-Grid System is installed at Hemalatha Heights Apartments to offset the Electricity bills of the common areas as well as to reduce the carbon footprint of the apartments.
The idea with installing solar is to completely net out the consumption from BESCOM\Grid of the apartment. The best cost effective choice was to install the solar on the common area load t0 approximately generate what the apartment needed in a month for their usage. Hence the apartment as a whole(common area + the 16 independent flats) has become net neutral in terms of energy consumption.
A 35 kWp system on an average can generate 140-150 units in a day. With a tariff rate of ~Rs.8 per unit the system generates approximate monthly savings of ~Rs.36,000.00 and yearly savings of ~Rs.4,32,000.00

On-Grid System with String Inverter
Panels and Inverter
Monocrystalline solar panels from Waaree with Delta String inverter is used for the implementation of the system. Higher efficient monocrystalline panels works better in higher temperatures and since the structure was elevated the string inverter system was the choice.
Mounting Structures
Special aluminiumstructures from German company Jurchen were used for ensuring stability of solar panels at heavy wind speeds on the 6th floor height of the building. The structures are riveted onto the metallic sheet ensuring that the area beneath is completely water proof.
Cabling, Earthingand Lightning Arrester
All the cables were routed through UPVC conduits to ensure they are protected from direct sunlight and other environmental factors. Earthinga lightening arrestors were grounded with non-corrosive aluminium rod.
Elevated Structure
An elevated structure was considered primarily to increase the solar system size and to make the terrace area usable as an utility space. The structure was elevated to a height of upto6m from the terrace level. The area can be used as party hall or other recreational activity space for the residents.
